To Feed Kibble or Not to Feed Kibble? Here’s the Answer You Won’t Forget!

I write a lot about the dangers of kibble. If I were able to write 100 articles on this topic per hour, it still wouldn’t be enough warning for pet parents! Please read and share with your pet parent friends.
Supermarket over-processed packaged dog kibble poses several significant DANGERS to canine health:
Nutritional Deficiencies
Low-Quality Ingredients: Many commercial dog foods contain poor quality proteins, often from obscure sources or meat derivatives, rather than whole meats. This can lead to nutritional deficiencies and health issues over time.
Dehydration Risk: Kibble typically contains only about 10% moisture, which can put dogs at risk of chronic dehydration1. This is particularly dangerous for dogs with kidney problems.
Health Risks
Inflammatory Effects:
Highly processed dog foods can have pro-inflammatory effects on a dog’s body, similar to human fast food. This can lead to various health issues, including:
1 Skin irritations and rashes
2 Joint stiffness
3 Eye problems
4 Obesity
Carcinogen Exposure: The high-heat processing of kibble can create carcinogens like acrylamide, potentially increasing cancer risk over time.
Heart Disease: Some grain-free dog foods have been linked to an increased risk of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a serious heart condition.
Chemical Concerns
Rancidity: Once opened, the fats in kibble can quickly go rancid, potentially leading to vitamin deficiencies and various health problems, including liver and kidney disease.
Artificial Additives: Many commercial dog foods contain artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives that may have negative health effects.
Long-Term Impact
Reduced Lifespan: A study in Belgium found that dogs fed processed diets (kibble or wet food) had shorter lifespans, dying up to 32 months sooner than those fed balanced homemade or healthy commercial diets.
Chronic Health Issues: Regular consumption of highly processed dog food has been associated with chronic degenerative diseases, autoimmune disorders, allergies, and organ problems.
To mitigate these risks, pet owners should consider alternatives such as :
- Home Cooking for your dog, making sure to learn about the safe ingredient and spice list that won’t harm you dog
- Synergistic, human grade Nuggets that are gently baked at low temperatures, that are carefully created and monitored. Only buy the brands that have absolutely no synthetic ingredients at all. This comes with a higher cost; HOWEVER, it’s a lot cheaper than all the eventual vet bills from your dog getting diseased and sick. How about the grief of losing your trusting and loving dog or cat due to kibble causing approximately a 3 year shorter lifespan.
- Consult a holistic/naturopathic veterinarian who aligns with your thinking
